It takes two to Tango...

I wrote most of this post in December 2012.

In some cases, it is as simple as some people have a bit of fun between the sheets, and a baby is on the way. Other times, it's a little more involved. The amount of intervention I had was fairly minimal, and while it was just the two of us at the time of conception, that doesn't mean it didn't take many others to lay the foundation. If I were more savvy  I would created a flow chart.

Here's a run down of the number of people that lead to the conception of this baby.
1. Me
2. Ted
3. My OB, my OB first advised that I see a specialist about a year before I did. In the mean time she prescribed 6 refills of Provera so that I would have periods, and Clomid to ensure I ovulated.
4. My RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist), beside him were his nurses and his office staff all of whom helped me along. I had about 10 appointments, 8 of which were in December.
5. The Phlebotomists, I had my blood drawn six times at a local hospital. The ladies were very friendly and always wished me luck (knowing the screening I was getting) and some didn't hold back on unsolicited childbearing advice. I didn't care though, I was in and out typically in 5 minutes, and they were always good-natured.
6. The courier who picked up my blood sample at about 9 AM and took them the clinic for analysis.
7. The analysts who assessed my sample and called my RE the same day so that my RE could call me to tell me to adjust my dosage as needed.
8. Mandell's Pharmacy: unless you've been down this road, you would have no idea there's a mail order, prescription drug company that specializes in fertility care. They ship the next day if need be, and again, knowing the situation, they were always sweet and wished me well. They are probably specially trained in dealing with overly hormonal women. Nonetheless, as you can tell customer service goes a long way with me.
9. The UPS Delivery people that got me the meds on time, at least most of the time.
10-15. The small handful of friends that have been down this road and were so supportive. They knew exactly what to say, and when to check in. Some others may be upset that I didn't confide in them, but sometimes you just need to cut right to the chase and talk to people in the know.
16. My acupuncturist. I think I would have gotten pregnant eventually with the help of my RE and all of the above, but I have no doubt that I got pregnant in the first cycle with the help of my acupuncturist. I started acupuncture in December 2012, the same month that I started treatment. I probably could have gotten pregnant from acupuncture treatments alone, but I wasn't patient enough for that. I wish I had started years ago.  It's amazing, and so far, the only people that think it's hogwash have not actually tried it or know anyone who has.

Like I said, our interventions were fairly minimal and still we're at 16 people! In December and January I was feeling very reflective about how many people had a hand in this little life. Typically in a hardship we don't take the time to give thanks, writing this post is my reminder I still have a few notes to write.
