Good Rx, Thank you!

Do you all know about Good Rx? I am not paid and get nothing for sharing this, but when I find out about a wonderful resource, I want to share it/shout it from the mountain tops!

You can download the free app, or use the website and have the coupons emailed to you. Don't worry you can adjust the settings so you don't get a ton of notifications, just like any app.

Here's how it works; you get a script from a doctor, you enter the prescription into the app with your zip code (or wherever you want to pick up the prescription), it populates the prices for the prescriptions at all of the nearby pharmacies. Here's an example of a range of prices you'll see for a prescription.

When you see one you like, you click on it, you can save the "coupon" in the app or in the phone, and then go to that pharmacy to fill it. The three pharmacies I went to all knew just what to do and they copy the info from the coupon. Sometimes it's not totally accurate because apparently drug prices are constantly negotiated so the price may vary slightly. Mine was $2 higher than the coupon stated.

You CAN still use HSA money to buy the prescription, but using Good Rx means you are NOT using your insurance or contributing to your deductible. It may mean you're driving to different pharmacies for each prescription, but you might find it's worth it to do so. If you have a prescription that refills each month, you can pause the auto refill, check the app, and have the less expensive pharmacy call the current pharmacy to transfer it over. We have the highest deductible plan around, so all doctor visits and prescriptions are pricey, for others this hassle may not be worth it.

The funny part here, is my insurance actually told me about this app when I called to inquire about a severe price hike. When I questioned the agent, "Wait, you're actually recommending I NOT use your insurance so I can save a significant amount of money." She said, 'Well I just love to help people.' At least there is still ONE good person in the insurance business!
Cute picture to break up the text.

Of course I wish we had this even the week before when we spent hundreds of dollars on Ted's prescriptions for Lyme, but all we can do is move forward. It's sickening that the insurance that we pay thousands for won't be accessed and scary that they will have no idea what we're taking at any given time. There really is no one else watching out for our health, and this is the perfect example of how the US is profits above all else. Somehow this is perfectly legal and safe, and free to use. What health hacks have you found?
