Strawberry Picking!

As I written many times before, I absolutely love living in Richmond! It feels like there are so many events and activities, and unlike in Northern Virginia where we used to live, these events seem so  accessible.

At the start of the weekend, we had no plans but some ideas. Ted just got a super-duper blender this week and has been whipping up some delicious smoothies while depleting our fruit and veggie reserves.

I see our grocery bill being larger, but we'll all be a little bit healthier.

When Ted heard Strawberry season started this weekend he was all about it. We headed out on Sunday morning. We can now go strawberry picking with a 30 minute drive and $1 per person. Pick your own strawberries are $2.29 a pound. We bought 22 LBS, but more on that later!

It was chilly, but we were excited!

After a brief wagon/hay ride, you are dropped at your picking site, and this time guides directed us to which rows we can attend to!

Glorious!

You can pick/eat as much as you want, and get back on the wagon when ever you'd like.

Hudson was more excited to watch the different tractors come and go than he was about picking strawberries. That's ok, Ted was all business and while I did not enjoy all of the squatting, the smell was so intoxicating I could not stop picking!
Ted's the one that wanted to fill 2 boxes, when I thought that was a ridiculous amount of fruit. We decided we would freeze about 3/4 of it and use them all summer in smoothies. Ted said he wanted to come back in a few weeks, that is until we got the register and realized this was $50 worth of strawberries!

The afternoon was spend hulling, rinsing, drying, freezing, bagging, which went exponentially faster after Hudson went to bed and Ted helped.

I can not adequately express how delicious these strawberries are, but this is a little bowl of heaven, and I easily could have eaten many more!

Hudson was so appreciative he couldn't help but give many extra hugs! What's your favorite strawberry recipe? I have a few I can throw around :)
