Book Notes: Bruiser

BruiserBruiser by Neal Shusterman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What can I say, I <3 Neal Shusterman! This book was about a boy named Brewster that everyone at school called Bruiser because he was always hunched over, appeared beaten up and kept to himself. Everyone thought he was creepy until Bronte learned he loved poetry and brought him out of his shell. Bronte and her twin brother Tennyson soon learned why Bruiser keeps to himself, he has the magical ability to take on the pain and suffering of the people he cares about. The more people he cared about, the more he suffered. Anything from paper cuts to cancer. As a result, people took advantage of him as they learned of his ability. Even though there’s a teenage love element it was not overbearing, and more focus was spent on family dynamics.
