Book Notes: The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven

The Boy Who Came Back from HeavenThe Boy Who Came Back from Heaven by Kevin Malarkey

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

This book is mighty religious so if the words; God, Jesus and Bible make you uncomfortable, this book is not for you! The book is by Kevin Malarkey, who in 2004 was in a horrible car accident with his six year old son Alex. Kevin was practically unscathed but Alex was on the brink of death and was in a coma for almost two months. During those two months a near 24-7 prayer vigil was held in Alex’s hospital room and numerous people professed Alex’s recovery. Gradually Alex returned to consciousness and shared his journey to Heaven and his frequent visit by Angels and God. The visits still continue but Alex is shy about sharing them, and some aspects of his experiences he has been instructed by God to not share.

Kevin acknowledges skepticism and says, “I’m just sharing my experience.” I appreciated that he admits strain on his marriage, guilt over the accident, money troubles and trying to spend time with his other three young children. He reminds the reader he ‘has to be honest because this is a work of nonfiction.’

While Alex has yet to fully recover, the Malarkey family believes it will happen in God’s time. Malarkey credits God and people’s love for God for paying off bills and preventing any worse fate. This book was a speedy read, and even the nonreligious get the powerful message of community, family and a positive outlook (if you can handle the religious overtones).
