Home and Garden: Privacy Please!

This week's home project was installing curtains in front of pocket doors that connect the office and living room. We love the look of the pocket doors, but when working it is not ideal to be just a few feet from the TV and toddler's play space! My husband worked from home for a year, but he is far more focused than I! Now that I am working mostly from home, something needed to be done to shield me from the most detracting part of the house. Especially with the toddler factor, as soon as he saw one of us on the computer, there was no chance of completing so much as a sentence without him being on the computer wanting to "play"!

NEW view from the living room.

Still some room for improvement but we're making progress.

1. We had to make sure we could mount the curtain rod on the wall with the pocket doors. Turns out it was only hallow about 1/2 an inch above the door so we were good to go. We wanted to get a wide enough curtain rod so that the panels could be pushed all the way to the side if we want to use the pocket doors.
2. We measured and headed to Bed Bath and Beyond. We found a panel that we liked, but there was only one in the store. If you place an order in the store, you can use your coupons and the product will be shipped to your house, sweet!
3. At home, Ted did the drilling and once the panels arrived via Fed Ex, I hung them up. The panels were wrinkled so we steamed them, and voila!

It just so happened that panels we liked are insulated so it helps with sound dampening too! Another perk is when I'm relaxing in the living room I don't have to see the work that awaits me in the office!

Total Cost: $70
Labor at Home: about an hour
Wrinkles out and ready for business!

I used to think curtains on interior walls were frivolously and fussy, now I see them as a great way to get the most enjoyment out of both rooms and add a little style to boot!
